I do like the ampeg b15 and eden world tour aims for bass as well, but where UAD shines IMO is eq, dynamics, reverb, tape and delay/mod.
That said the amp is pretty dirty and not the stereotypical Fender sound. These guys really deserve the reputation they're building. I will say that the UAD fender 55 amp sim is very accurate and has a great response to input level and inflection. Great independent company with a great customer service. Looks like a silly overpromissing tool but I already think it does it's job. Our first impression of this plugin is that as soon as the Tape is opened, its control design looks very simple, doesn’t have many effects as other plugins. SofTube Tape has a smooth, varied sound and emulates three different classic tape machine plugins. The Vocal Finalizer still didn't get much use but it seems to work great. SofTube Tape is among the best tape plugins and is generally sold at affordable prices. I usually test different approaches to my guitar chain but it always ends up being:īlue Cat Axiom -> Need 31102 -> Softube Tape (or Waves J37) -> bx_SSL 4000E // Valhalla VV // Echoboy It has a great saturation and the EQ works wonders for broad strokes (the high end is specially amazing). The Need is simply THE one plugin that I use the most. To be fair, can't say if it's a "great emulation" but it definitely sounds AMAZING :) ). The Pultec is simply the best emulation I've ever used (never got near to the real deal. I have the Pultec emulation (the Heritage, with the 3 modules together), the Need 31102 and the Vocal Finalizer. That said, having a good emulation will always help you with room volume and portability In the end you'll still lack something and spending the money on it anyway. Again: I've spent time and money trying to. There's still nothing that can reproduce it. Just subscribe for their newsletter and be patient Plugin Alliance plugins are among the best in any category and the amp emulations are no different (specially the Bassman one). (4) You can always get my second best options: Brainworx amp emulations through Plugin Alliance for 29 USD.

#Softube tape vs uad free
If you want a free and great alternative I'd go for Airwindows Channel 9 and Tape Redux or ToTape6 I recommend Noise Ash's "Need 31102" and Softube's "Tape", respectively. Besides getting more saturation, they're gonna cut some of the harshness of digital distortion on the high end. That will make it sound more analog since you're replicating the actual signal chain of a real studio. (3) Always use a preamp and tape emulation after the amp emulation. Since I always play clean or edge of breakup tones, can't contribute much on that (2) Axiom is said to be not that great for heavier/higher gain sounds. (1) I've never played Helix/Kemper/Axe FX (but they're in a completely different price range) And this guy is the only one that really get me the actual sensation of playing a real tube amp. The sound quality and level of customization is just another level.

None of them got EVEN CLOSE to Blue Cat Audio's Axiom. Neural DSP, THU, Waves, Amplitube, Bias AMP/FX, Guitar Rig.
